In Chinese medicine, he shou wu is used to nourish the liver, kidneys, blood and jing (essence). It can be used to treat people with yin or blood deficiency symptoms such as dizziness, ringing in the ears, anemia, poor vision, low back pain, and premature graying of the hair. It can be used for impotence, excess vaginal discharge, uterine bleeding, weak knees and ankles. It has been used in martial arts as a liniment for bruises.  Fo-ti is indicated for weak kidneys
