Brazilian Potency Wood

This has a long history of being used as an aphrodisiac and nerves stimulant in South American medicine. This herb seems to possess a consistently strong activity as an anti rheumatic and neuromuscular tonic, helping alleviate muscle and joint pain. However, the primary benefits in erectile dysfunction are that it strongly relaxes and calms the body (which reduces stress effects on sexual arousal while promoting blood flow to the penis). This action in turn stimulates sexual arousal, erection, and central nervous system activity. In one clinical trial, 262 men with low libido and the inability to maintain or have an erection were given 1 to 1.5 grams of muira puma extract. After two weeks, 62 percent of the men experienced a return of libido and 51 percent had noted significant help with erectile function. Another trail found positive benefits for men with sexual asthenia (fatigue, loss of strength, or lack of sexual vitality, all of which are typical signs of low testosterone levels or androgen/estrogen imbalance). One hundred men complaining of impotence of lack of libido, or both, took part in the trial, ninety-four completed it. Sixty-six percent of the couples reported significantly increased frequency of intercourse, stability of erection was restored for 55% of the men, 66% reported reduced fatigue, and 70% reported an intensification of libido. Sleep improvement and increased morning erections were reported by many of the men.

Nettles

Several studies have indicated that the lignin’s in the root of nettle inhibited the binding activity of human sex hormone binding globulin in vitro. Nettle root was shown to be a very weak inhibitor of 5-a-reductase (which converts testosterone into 5-a-DHT) in vitro. A mild inhibition of DHT binding to androgen receptors in isolated rat prostate was observed. Nettle root improved the symptoms of BPH in two double blind placebo controlled studies. In a randomized double blind, multicenter, clinical trial, the efficacy of combined nettle root ad saw palmetto extract was compared with the drug finasteride in treating BPH stages 1 to 2 over 48 weeks. Improvements in IPSS and peak urinary flow were observed for both groups. Although no significant difference was demonstrated between the two treatments, fewer adverse events were reported for the herbal combination, especially in terms of diminished ejaculation volume, erectile dysfunction, and headache. The herbal treatment daily dose equivalent to 2.4 g per day of nettle root.
